The government has published its response to the consultation on the new information sharing duty, alongside the final statutory guidance. The duty, which comes into force on 30 September 2026, aims to support earlier, more confident and consistent sharing of information to safeguard children and promote their welfare. Following consultation feedback, the guidance has been strengthened to provide greater clarity on consent, data protection, transparency with children and families, and how to determine what information is relevant and proportionate. School leaders and designated safeguarding leads should review the guidance and consider any implications for their policies, staff training and local information-sharing arrangements.
