BEP's Primary English Conference will support English subject leaders, senior leaders and headteachers to think strategically about the teaching of English in a changing national landscape.
The day will explore how schools can strengthen pupils’ access to English through secure foundations in language, reading and writing, while also maintaining ambition through rich texts, meaningful talk and purposeful composition.
With national attention on curriculum, inclusion, inspection and strong foundations, this conference will help leaders consider what high-quality English provision looks like across the primary phase. Sessions will explore the role of spoken language, early reading, reading fluency, writing development and the use of high-quality texts to deepen comprehension, vocabulary, sentence craft and written outcomes.
The conference will support leaders to reflect on key questions:
- How do we ensure all pupils can access ambitious English teaching?
- How do spoken language, reading and writing connect across the primary curriculum?
- What happens after phonics, and how do we develop fluent, thoughtful readers?
- How do we strengthen writing through transcription, sentence control, oral rehearsal and composition?
- How can high-quality texts open doors to deeper reading, richer vocabulary and more purposeful writing?
This is not about adding another initiative to the English curriculum. It is about helping leaders build coherent, ambitious and inclusive English provision, so that every pupil has the language, knowledge and confidence to read, write and communicate well.
